Biography
Joumana El-Rifai received both the BSc and MSc degrees in Physics from the American University in Cairo (AUC) in 2003 and 2006 respectively. From 2006-2008 she was a researcher at the YJ-Science and Technology Research Center (YJ-STRC), working on the design, fabrication and characterization of micro-lens arrays for generation of diffraction-limited beams. She received her PhD degree in electrical engineering (2012) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL), Belgium, in collaboration with IMEC, Belgium and YJ-STRC at AUC. As a graduate student her research involved post-processing MEMS on temperature sensitive substrates, in particular laser-induced crystallization of a-SiGe. In September 2012, she joined the physics department at AUC.
