Biography
Dr. Edwin Alexander Alvarez is a gynecologic oncologist at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. His primary focus is the surgical and medical treatment of ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and other cancers of the female reproductive system. He performs both open and minimally invasive gynecologic oncology and complicated gynecologic surgery.
Research Interest
Alvarez was recruited to UCSF to serve as director of clinical trials for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. He is involved with NRG Oncology, the National Cancer Institute-sponsored cooperative group for cancer clinical trials. Before coming to UCSF, he was the director for chemotherapy services for gynecologic malignancies at UC Davis. In addition to treating patients, Alvarez has a strong commitment to teaching medical students, residents and fellows. He is fluent in Spanish.
