Biography

Yemane Berhane is a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and Director of Addis Continental Institute of Public Health, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He earned a Doctor of Medicine (1987) and Master’s of Public Health (1992) degrees from Addis Ababa University, and a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health (2000) from Umea University, Umea, Sweden. Prof. Yemane Berhane is a Founding Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences. He has an illustrious career in teaching, research, and consulting for since 1992. He has led the pioneer work of the Addis Continental Institute of Public Health since its establishment in 2006. Prof Yemane Berhane has participated in numerous research projects in the areas of maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other priority public health issues and published extensively (over 220 publications) in national and international peer reviewed journals. He has served as President of the Ethiopian Public Health Association (1995-99); as Associate Vice Present for Addis Ababa University (2001-02); Regional Director for Measure Evaluation Anglophone Africa Training on Monitoring and Evaluation of health Programs (2005-06); Board Member of the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (2006-08); Member of the WHO/AFRO Technical Advisory Group on Measles Control in Africa (2005-present), and as a chair of the Global network of Monitoring and evaluation training center (GEMNET-Health, 2012-2014). He has served on numerous taskforces for public health matters that were established by the relevant agencies of the Government of Ethiopia and Internationally. He has worked as a consultant to several international agencies including CDC, USAID, WHO, the World Bank, and other UN agencies.
