Biography
Professor Afework Kassu joined the University of Gondar as a graduate assistant in May 1995. He is now Professor of Medical microbiology at the School of Biomedical and Laboratory Sciences Director of Research and Community Services. Professor Afework earned his BSC and MSC from Addis Ababa University in November 1993 and August 2001, respectively, in Biology and Applied Microbiology. He completed his PhD studies at The University of Tokushima, Japan from 2003 to 2007 in Biomedical Sciences. Most recently he has completed his postdoctoral studies on HIV immunology at University of Colorado Denver, USA from 2008 to 2010.
Research Interest
Professor Afework’s main research interests include tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, diarrheal diseases, bacterial meningitis, intestinal parasitoses, micronutrition and medical laboratory services.
