Biography

Ato Takele is a Lecturer within the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology and has been PhD candidate at Akililu Lemma Institute of Pathobiology, Addis Ababa University since 2011. He initially joined the University of Gondar in 2001 as a Medical Laboratory Technician within the University Hospital. He went on to join the College of Medical Science as a Technical Assistant II later on in 2001 before progressing on to become Assistant Lecturer in Medical Laboratory Technology in 2006. In 2007 he left the University to pursue his graduate studies and rejoined the Department as a Lecturer in tropical and infectious diseases serving between July 2009 to July 2011. Ato Takele gained a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from the University of Gondar in 2000. He completed his B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology at Jimma University in 2005 and gained his M.Sc. in Tropical and Infectious Diseases at ALIPB, Addis Ababa University in 2009. His academic duties include teaching immunology, molecular biology and clinical chemistry courses for undergraduate medical laboratory students; offering research advice for undergraduate medical laboratory and M.Sc. in Tropical and Infectious Diseases students; running patient sample test in clinical chemistry, microbiology and immunology in Gondar University Hospital and conducting researches on tropical and infectious diseases. During his time at the University Ato Takele has served in a range of positions alongside his academic responsibilities. These include serving as Diagnostic Director in the University of Gondar referral hospital from March to August, 2011; Post-graduation Coordinator in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences during January 2010 to March 2011; and Coordinator of Undergraduate student research in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences from September 2009 to June 2010.

Research Interest

Ato Takele’s main area of research interest is molecular epidemiology and immunology of infectious diseases with an emphasis on tuberculosis, prevention and control of tropical and infectious diseases.
