Biography

Solomon Hail Gebrechorkos is a PhD Researcher in the Systems and Flux Analysis considering Global Change Assessment Unit at UNU-FLORES. His research at UNU-FLORES focuses on statistical downscaling of climate data from GCMs and the application of remote sensing data for managing environmental resources and regional climate projections and impact assessment on the soil water budget. He currently works on assessing and synthesising of climate data related to the integrated management of water and soil in East Africa. Before joining UNU-FLORES, Solomon worked for the Ethiopian Water, Mines and Energy office and Catholic Relief Society (CRS) as a water and irrigation engineer and was the vice head officer of a sub-regional office for about five years in the areas of Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), water resource and environmental management, and water and irrigation engineering. He was also a research officer at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland and Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany, dealing with environment and climate change and the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and hydro-meteorological modelling. Solomon received his Bachelor in Water and Soil Engineering and Management from Haramaya University in Ethiopia and Master of Science in Water Resource and Environmental Management from Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany.
