Biography

Dr. Neeta Ramkumar is a licensed counseling psychologist in the United States and lecturer at USP. She teaches postgraduate courses in counseling and clinical psychology.   Dr. Ramkumar earned her B.A. in Psychology and History from University of Texas at Austin, and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Texas A&M University. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship and clinical internship at US Veterans Affairs hospitals and specializes in the treatment of trauma. Her research focuses on how psychological constructs such as self-compassion, problem-solving, and resilience influence the relationship between personality and mental health. She has a special interest in family caregivers and how family dynamics affect various physical and mental health outcomes. Dr. Ramkumar is also passionate about examining multicultural factors in the course and treatment of psychological conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Research Interest

In addition to devoting many of her academic and professional years in Texas, Dr. Ramkumar has lived in several countries outside of the United States for various lengths of time including, Singapore, Malaysia, Argentina, France, and Spain. She travels internationally extensively and enjoys working with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. She is dedicated to building international partnerships that will improve access to mental health care and psychology training in Fiji.
