Biography
Jari Hämäläinen is a Professor of Industrial Mathematics at LUT and currently acting as a Vice-rector for research and innovation. His major research interests are Finite Element Methods, Computational Fluid Dynamics and CFD-based optimisation in industrial applications. Recently, he has been working with wind energy aerodynamics and wind park optimisation. He published a textbook on "Finite Element Methods for Computational Fluid Dynamics: A Practical Guide" (2014) co-authored with Professor Dmitry Kuzmin from TU Dortmund University. Hämäläinen has been active in international collaboration, e.g. within European Research Community On Flow, Turbulence And Combustion (ERCOFTAC). He has worked in a technical research center and in industry in 1994-2003, as a professor of industrial physics at University of Eastern Finland in 2004-2010, and started at LUT in 2010. Hämäläinen has supervised a dozen of doctoral theses on CFD, FEM and optimization, and he has published more than 100 scientific papers. He is also an inventor of 12 patents e.g. on model-based control.
