Julkunen Lauri

Biography

My research interests include gender history, history of education, history of youth, and biographical research. In addition, I am interested in cultural heritage studies and cultural policy, which I have studied in the University of Jyväskylä and Aarhus University in Denmark. My PhD dissertation focuses on the construction of boyhood in Karilas brothers’ boy literature and boy work in Finland 1900–1970. I have also written an article about the articulation of the “boy problem” in Finland in the 1920’s. My master’s thesis won the first price in the competition for youth research theses, which was organized by the Finnish Youth Research Society in 2014. I am a member of the department’s research center of Gender Studies, research group on education, childhood and youth studies, and the multidisciplinary network of gender research Kantti.
