Biography

Dr. Timo Särkkä is a postdoctoral researcher in history, specialised in the history of economic thought (with an emphasis on economic imperialism). His doctoral monograph entitled Hobson's Imperialism (2009) analysed theories of imperialism in the long nineteenth century (up to 1914). The dissertation is available at Jyväskylä University Digital Archive. Särkkä’s publications include case studies of manufacturing and colonial businesses, colonial conquest as well as cross-cultural exchanges and relationships stemming from colonial and global settings. His research has been supported by the Academy of Finland under Postdoctoral Researcher Project (2013–2016) and a Visiting Fellowship at Kyoto Sangyo University, Japan (2016–2017). Särkkä is a member of the Ethnicity and Migration network at the European Social Science History Conference, Business History Conference and European Business History Association.
