Biography
I received my PhD from the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics of the University of Cambridge (2013). My PhD thesis (funded by the Greek State Scholarship Foundation – I.K.Y.) is a definitional and typological investigation of the phenomenon of verbal irony, with respect to the literal-nonliteral distinction. I have also worked on topics related to sociolinguistics and discourse analysis, while my current research explores a range of aspects regarding nonliteral language and humour in different discourse environments. Before joining ELL in September 2013, I taught at the University of Cambridge and the University of Leeds in the areas of semantics, (experimental) pragmatics, discourse analysis, and language acquisition. I also designed the curriculum for a 2-week summer school in Linguistics aimed at international A-level students (Reach Cambridge Summer School) and I am further interested in topics concerning linguistics in education and linguistics curricula.
