Biography

Henry Claridge has teaching and research interests in American Literature, American Studies and comparative literature. He has taught at the universities of Warwick, Indiana and Massachusetts. His publications include F. Scott Fitzgerald: Critical Assessments (1991) and William Faulkner: Critical Assessments (1998). He has also written on Theodore Dreiser, E. L. Doctorow, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Moby-Dick, nineteenth-century criticism of the novel, naturalism, and the city of Chicago. He has contributed to The Cambridge Guide to Literature in English (1993) and was an adviser and contributor for The Oxford Companion to Twentieth-Century Literature in English (1996); he writes a regular chapter for The Year's Work in English Studies. At present he is editing a three-volume collection of The American 1950s: Sources and Documents and is preparing an edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter for Wordsworth Classics. His teaching includes course in American Literature, American Modernism and the European realist novel.
