Biography
Michele Bigoni is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the Kent Business School. He holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Ferrara, Italy. Previously, he was Lecturer in Accounting at the Queen's Management School, Queen's University Belfast. His research interests are mainly focused on public sector performance management and measurement, processes of accounting and managerial change and public value creation and measurement. Accounting history is a relevant field of interest, where he has focused on the role of accounting in churches and on how accounting can be a tool in the exercise of State power. He has been recognized as one of the "thought leaders" in the field of accounting history and religion (Cordery, Accounting History, 2015, p. 447) and has been selected by the Academy of Accounting Historians as the recipient of the 2016 Margit F. and Hanns Martin Schoenfeld Award. Michele serves as a referee for the 3* journals Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal and Critical Perspectives on Accounting. He has also been appointed as referee for the Italian journal Contabilità e Cultura Aziendale – Accounting and Cultures. Michele's teaching interests cover both financial and management accounting, he has also taught accounting in the public sector. He is a member of the Higher Education Academy.
