Biography
Lady Judge, a trained commercial lawyer with both British and American citizenship, has an unusually broad and successful international career as a senior executive, chairman and non-executive director in both the private and public sectors. She received a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and Juris Doctor with honors from New York University Law School and was a partner in a major US law firm specializing in corporate and financial transactions. In 1980 Lady Judge was appointed by the President as the youngest-ever Commissioner of the US Securities and Exchange Commission and initiated reforms to open the US capital markets to overseas investors and facilitate Americans investing in foreign securities. She moved to Hong Kong in 1983 as the first woman main board executive director of a London merchant bank, Samuel Montagu & Co. She then held a series of senior positions in banking in the US and UK. She was head of the International Private Banking Group of Bankers Trust and a non-executive director of United Asset Management Inc, a US-based fund of asset management companies. She was also the first woman director of News International as well as deputy chairman of Friends Provident plc, one of Britain’s largest insurers and pension providers. In addition she was a founder and chairman of Private Equity Investor plc, a London-listed fund of funds, among others. Since 2010 Lady Judge has been Chairman of the UK Pension Protection Fund.
