Biography

Rolf SCHMID studied chemistry at the University of Munich, Germany, and at the University of Friborg, Switzerland, before obtaining his doctorate in 1970. After a postdoctoral training at Gif-sur-Yvette, France, and at the University of Texas, Austin, USA, he worked at Henkel in Düsseldorf, at the German Biotechnology Research Center (GBF) in Braunschweig, and as Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Engineering. Interfaces and Bioprocesses of Stuttgart. His research focuses on enzyme design and industrial biotechnology. In 2007, he obtained an MBA from the German University of Reutlingen and founded, a consulting firm based in Stuttgart (www.bio4business.eu). Throughout his career, he has conducted activities and projects in Japan and China.
