Biography
For the past fifteen years, Emmanuelle Marchal's research has sought to shed light on the question of the functioning of the labor market by taking as an entry point the analysis of recruitment patterns. It focuses on the way in which mediations between suppliers and applicants are carried out and judgments are made on competences. His work, both quantitative and qualitative, is part of a double filiation: that of the economics of conventions with which it has established close ties in the form of numerous collaborations, and that of the economic sociology of markets. It adopts a constructivist approach to the labor market by focusing on what helps to keep this market and equip it (the role of devices and intermediaries), to build trust and stabilize transactions. It highlights the importance of the formats in which information flows on the labor market and their implications for the valorization of skills.
Research Interest
The choice of its fields and methods of investigation pursues two objectives: to overcome the lack of available data on recruitment methods in France and to develop a sociological view on an issue usually addressed by other disciplines (psychology, economics , law, management). It adopts a comparative viewpoint, highlighting the evolution of recruitment patterns, French specificities and the variability of practices according to the types of companies, jobs to be filled and candidates.
