Biography
Jeanne Lazarus's research focuses on building the citizen's report to the monetary institutions of developed countries in the in the context of the financialization of the economy and everyday life : while collective protections are dwindling, the finances of individuals are increasingly risky and linked to the stock market. Research Interest
His PhD thesis focused on the social consequences of mass banking: since 1966 banks have opened up to the general public, and the bank account is now indispensable to a normal social life. Following an approach of political and moral sociology, Jeanne Lazarus analyzed the hardships faced by bank clients, whose criteria are sometimes fuzzy and contradictory because of the original tension of the French banks, which are at the same time institutions of " monetary framework for populations and market spaces. This research has continued in two other directions: it examined the effects of banking on consumption and the monetary practices of the poorest; it has also worked to spread the theoretical field of the sociology of money.
