Biography
Christopher Hamel is an associate of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He works in the history of political ideas (16th-18th centuries) and in contemporary political philosophy. He has taught at the University of Paris 1, the University of Rouen and the Université du Québec à Montréal. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC Starting-Grant RESIST project, led by Justine Lacroix (ULB), where he works on the place of the concept of rights in contemporary neo-republican thought. His research focuses on republican thought, its historical and normative dimensions, and the methodological problems associated with intellectual history.
Research Interest
History of political thought (16th-18th centuries): Republican tradition, jusnaturalism, theories of resistance, revolutions. Contemporary political philosophy: neo-republicanism, perfectionism, theories of rights. Methodology of intellectual history: "school of Cambridge", school "straussian".
