Michael Zager

Biography

Mike Zager joined Certara Strategic Consulting in June 2017. With formal training in mathematics and 11 years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development, Mike’s main contributions have been in the area of translational modeling and dose prediction, utilizing an array of PK/PD modeling methodologies, such as mechanistic PK/PD, PBPK/PD and quantitative systems pharmacology. Mike has experience in the therapeutic areas of oncology, diabetes, immunology, mood disorder, ophthalmology, and some rare diseases. He has investigated and modeled the PK/PD of small molecules, antibodies, peptides, antibody-drug conjugates, and other modalities. Mike received Masters and PhD degrees in computational mathematics from North Carolina State University, where he studied physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling and simulation. Subsequently, Mike was a postdoctoral fellow under the funding of the University of North Carolina Curriculum in Toxicology, working at the National Human Environmental Effects Research Laboratory of the US EPA, where he studied multi-scale modeling of anti-androgenic effects on the prostate. Upon completion of the postdoc, Mike spent 8 years at Pfizer, working with a team of modelers that helped pioneer the discipline of pre-clinical and translational PK/PD modeling. Mike then spent 3 years at Janssen, utilizing his translational modeling skills and branching into the early-phase clinical space.  Mike enjoys the challenge of consulting, which requires bringing together a variety of skills and tools to meet the diverse needs of the CSC customer base. Mike also enjoys the teamwork so prevalent in the CSC culture. Mike’s goals are to help advance innovation and continue the growth of CSC capabilities with his skill sets, contributing toward providing customers with ever-improving solutions to their needs.
