Biography
He is neurologist and group head of the research team and currently working on ur goal is to unravel the mechanisms of wake and associated pathologies: narcolepsy, somnolence, insomnia and metabolic disorders using an integrative physiology approach including electrophysiology, pharmacological and behavioural tests, neurotransmitter and metabolite detection, molecular genetics, preclinical and clinical investigations aimed at identification of new approaches for diagnostic and therapy of sleep and metabolic disorders. Methods & Techniques Electrophysiology both in animals and humans from birth to adulthood (EEG, EMG, local field potential, intra and extracellular recordings in behaving animals), Polysomnography, Electrochemistry (biosensors), Immunohistochemistry, Pharmacological and behavioural testing in animal models, Neuropharmacology, Cognitive, metabolic and endocrine testing in humans, Animal models for sleep disorders, Molecular genetics in Drosophila. Research projects • Histamine, orexin & mechanisms maintaining wakefulness (J.S. Lin, K. Sakai, H. Akaoka) • Wakefulness & alertness at the cortical level (S. Crochet, S. Marinesco) • Molecular pathways of wakefulness (L. Seugnet) • Extended wake & metabolic disorders (K. Spiegel)
