Biography
His research activity is in the field of integrative neuroscience and neuropharmacology and focuses on the control of motor skills. The ganglion network of the base is a set of subcortical structures involved in sensory-motor integrations, behavioral automatisms or procedural memory. The research has attempted to model the physiological and pathophysiological functioning of this network given its involvement in many pathologies such as Parkinson's disease, addictions to abuse drugs, schizophrenia. While this research has produced notable successes, the models developed to date do not provide an acceptable paradigm for the functioning of this network. Serotonin (5-HT), a neuromodulator from neurons buried in the midbrain, is present in the basal ganglia and numerous human and animal data indicate that 5-HT is a major contributor to motor control.
