Duval Julien

Biography

Since 2001, Julien Duval has been a researcher at CNRS. His main research activities have focused on economic journalism ( Critique of journalistic reason , Paris, Le Seuil, 2004) and cinema ( Cinema in the XX th century. Between law and market rules of art , Paris, CNRS Editions, 2016). He also co-directed, with Philippe Coulangeon, two collective books ( Thirty years after Pierre Bourdieu's Distinction , La Découverte, "Recherches", 2013 and The Routledge Companion to Bourdieu's Distinction, Routledge, 2014) and also worked on social security. ( The Myth of the "safety hole", Paris, Reasons to Act, 2007) and the implementation of correspondence analysis in sociology (see in particular "Analyzing a social space", in Serge Paugam (eds.), The sociological survey , Paris, PUF, 2010, "Correspondence Analysis and Field Construction", Proceedings of Social Science Research , No. 200, December 2014). He teaches at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and the Institute of Political Studies in Toulouse. He is, for the current term (2014-2017), Deputy Director of the CESSP in charge of the team of the Center for European Sociology.

Research Interest

Julien Duval is a CNRS researcher since 2001. His main research interests are on economic journalism (Critique of Journalistic Reason, Paris, Le Seuil, 2004) and cinema (Cinema in the 20th centurycentury, Paris, CNRS Éditions, 2016). He has been Editor, with Philippe Coulangeon, of the following books: Thirty years after Pierre Bourdieu's Distinction (La Découverte, "Recherches", 2013) and The Routledge Companion to Bourdieu's Distinction (Routledge, 2014). He also published articles dealing with economics and social security (Myth of the "hole of the Secs", Reasons to act, 2007) and he is interested in methodological issues in sociology associated with the correspondence analysis models. He gives lectures at the EHESS, Science Po Toulouse (Institute of Political Studies). He serves for the current term (2014-2017) as deputy director of the CESSP in charge of the CSE (Paris Center of European Sociology).
