Laurent COHEN is Professor of neurology, university hospital of the Salpêtrière . For over 20 years, he has been associating teaching, clinical practice, and research in the field of cognitive neuroscience. His career evolved in the neurology department of the university hospital of the Salpêtrière in Paris, where he was in turn a resident, a fellow, and a permanent full time neurologist. In 2000, he was appointed Professor of neurology. He teaches neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience to medical students as well as to psychology students and speech therapists. He is in charge of a clinical ward with about 15 neurological in-patients. His scientific activity has been dedicated to the study of higher cognitive functions, particularly language, reading, and mental calculation. This work resulted in a PhD thesis and in over 100 international publications in peer-reviewed journals (h-index ~ 53). I address these issues mainly through the study of brain damaged patients, combining concepts and methods derived from experimental psychology and neuropsychology with recent morphological and functional neuroimaging techniques. He has been a member of the Commission for Neurosciences at the INSERM and he is currently on the Scientific Committee of the Fyssen Foundation and the NRJ Foundation.
