Yves Fregnac

Biography

 His research work has led to more than 90 publications in refereed journals and 12 book chapters and reviews. In 1999 he was awarded the Grand Prix Jaffé by the French Academy of Sciences. In addition to recurrent funding from the CNRS, his work has been financed by national grants (ACI, and more recently ANR, from the French Ministry of Research and Education) and by international grants: Human Frontier Science Program for joint projects with laboratories in Japan, USA and Israel for 11 years. Over the past 5 years he has been the French CNRS coordinator for two EC grants (IST FET initiatives Life-like perception: ”SenseMaker” and Bio-I3: ”Facets”). He is also the founder of the “Unité de Neurosciences Intégratives et Computationnelles” (the Systems and Computational Neuroscience Research Unit), which has been jaudged nationally and internationally as one of the leading interdisciplinary Research Departments of the CNRS at the interface between Systems Neuroscience, Computational Modelling and Physics. Yves Frégnac has been the 2008 Laureate of the Grand Prix de l’Institut de France Louis D., for his own scientific work and the creation and scientific excellency of his research Department (UNIC). Dr. Yves Frégnac is a Research Director at the CNRS (DR1) and Head of the Systems and Computational Neuroscience Research Unit (UPR CNRS 2191 (UNIC)) at Gif sur Yvette, (France). He is also the Director of the Institute of Neurobiology Alfred Fessard (FRC Y2118), which regroups all the Neuroscience Research Units on the CNRS Campus of Gif-sur-Yvette. Within UNIC, he is the leader of the research group ”Cognitive Neurosciences and Cortical Vision”. He is also a member of the Research Center in Epistemology at the Ecole Polytechnique (CREA-X).
