Biography
Fabrice Chrétien, 43, is a doctor, teacher and researcher. He is a professor of medicine (Histology) at the Paris Descartes University and head of the Neuropathology Department at the Sainte Anne Hospital in Paris. He has been head of the Histopathology Unit at the Institut Pasteur since 2010. He has received a double medical and scientific training in clinical neurology, neuropathology and neuroscience. He has published more than 120 scientific articles in these topics. The unit headed by Fabrice Chrétien at the Pasteur Institute, seeks to understand how cells organize and work together in a complex tissue to keep it in working order or repair it. Two models are favored: the brain and the muscle. In the brain, the team studies how, during infections, sepsis in particular, brain function is altered and sequelae can occur. In muscle, researchers are looking at repairing tissue from, among other things, stem cells. This work associates experimental studies in the laboratory in different models but also clinical studies in humans. The work of the team has demonstrated in humans and mice the ability of stem cells to remain in a state of dormancy when their environment becomes hostile, including after the death of the individual. while remaining perfectly functional in vitro and in vivo . This discovery suggests therapeutic prospects for many diseases.
