Biography
His research program focuses on renal physiology and pathophysiology in humans and animals. Because the kidney plays the central role in fluid and ion homeostasis, the research program also deals with the systemic consequences of renal dysfunction such as hypertension, extracellular fluid disorders, acid base disturbances, and mineral metabolism disorders including osteoporosis, stone kidney disease and bine and mineral disorders in patients with chronic kidney disease. This program concerns organ physiology as well as the tubular, cellular, and subcellular regulations. their methodological approaches allow us to conduct experiments from the molecular level to the most integrated level (including human studies). The present fields of interest are - the mechanisms of disorders of divalent cations transport along the renal tubule, and their relevancy in patients with renal stone disease, disorders of mineral metabolism , and bone mineralization defects - the disorders of ammonium/ammonia transport along the renal tubule and their relevancy in renal tubular acidosis and chronic kidney disease - the mechanisms of rare, inherited, renal tubular disorders.
