Biography

As an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine of Cali in Colombia (1985-1992), she was granted a university degree to come to France between 1992-1996 to prepare a PhD in Neurosciences at Bx University 2 in the laboratory led by Bernard Dufy. During this period, she worked mainly on the role of chloride ions in the physiology of pituitary cells under the direction of P. Sartor. They have been able to demonstrate the mode of regulation of the internal concentration of chlorine in the lactotropic cells. This regulation is assured by several anionic transport mechanisms: exchangers, co-transporters, but also by the existence of an internal mitochondrial storage of the chloride ions that we have demonstrated for the first time. This set of mechanisms plays a fundamental role in the homeostasis of the entire intracellular ionic environment and in the normal functioning of these cells (maintenance of pHi, cationic flux, energy status and hormonal secretion of these cells). Back in my country she resumed my teaching activities at the University of Cali for 2 years. she found the Laboratory of Neurophysiology in Bordeaux in 2000 directed by Prof. B. Bioulac to participate in the implementation of a new problematic of fundamental research, intended to bring elements of understanding to observations made in the clinic of the treatment of parkinsonian patients by the high-frequency stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus.
