John R. Doody, Jr.

Biography

John R. Doody, Jr. is a Principal at AEA Group and is the Managing Principal of its Birmingham office. He has over 25 years of experience providing financial and investment advisory services to clients.  Since joining AEA, his primary areas of concentration have been lost profit and economic damage analyses, financial forensics and business valuations.  Mr. Doody has experience working on projects across numerous industries including financial servies, real estate and healthcare. Prior to joining AEA Group, John was a Principal at registered investment advisor Highland Associates, Inc. Highland Associates is an independent institutional investment consultant, primarily serving Non-Profit Healthcare operating entities. In his two decades with the firm, Mr. Doody served in various analytical, consulting and management roles. As the firm's Chief Operating Officer, he was responsible for managing and coordinating the firm's Consulting, Research, Performance Accounting, Administration and Sales and Marketing functions. As the Firm's Director of Research, he was responsible for developing and implementing Highland's traditional and alternative investment manager search and investment monitoring practices for its $20 billion in assets under advisement. He developed processes for sourcing, screening, due diligence, investment committee approval and monitoring investment managers and portfolios. He also developed Highland's capital markets research methodology for determining asset class return and risk assumptions and led various research projects on topics of interest. He was a Consultant to many non-profit organizations throughout his career, developing and implementing investment strategies to allow these organizations to most efficiently utilize their capital resources. He worked closely with client's senior management in addition to presenting to their Investment Committees, Finance Committees and Boards. He previously held Series 7 and 63 licenses. He was also a founder of investment managers Highland Strategies and Highland Good Steward Management. Prior to joining Highland Associates, Mr. Doody was a Senior Valuation Analyst with Ernst & Young in its Atlanta office, where he performed business valuations for estate and gift tax purposes, mergers and acquisitions and legal defense. Mr. Doody worked extensively in the valuation of real estate and partnerships in addition to the valuation of intangible assets such as contracts, leases, trademarks, customer lists and covenants not-to-compete.
