Biography

Dr. Chris Jo was born in South Korea and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of three. He has been a resident of the Atlanta area since 1978 and considers himself a true Georgian. He attended high school in Cobb County, graduated from Emory College, and received his D.M.D. with Honors from the Medical College of Georgia. He then completed a four year surgical residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine, including a year as Chief Resident. He pursued further subspecialty training and completed an accredited Fellowship in Facial Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery under the proctorship of a well established facial cosmetic surgeon. Dr. Jo credits his dental background for his meticulous attention to detail, visual perception, fine motor skills, and manual dexterity that allows him perform complex oral, facial, and maxillofacial surgical procedures with finesse. He also credits his residency and fellowship training for allowing him to enjoy a broad-scope practice and is excited work with referring doctors to provide care for his community.  Dr. Jo considers his residency training at Emory University School of Medicine to be one of the best in the country. Dr. Jo trained under the proctorship of nationally and internationally recognized leaders in his specialty. During residency, he had extensive training and experience in advanced oral surgical procedures (impacted wisdom teeth, dental implants, bone grafting), orthognathic surgery (corrective and cosmetic jaw surgery), facial trauma and reconstructive surgery (facial fractures and lacerations), maxillofacial tumor and reconstructive surgery (pathology and total jaw reconstruction), and minimally invasive TMJ surgery (laser-assisted arthroscopic surgery). He also rotated on various medical and surgical specialties (including anesthesiology, emergency medicine, ENT, plastic surgery, occuloplastic surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, trauma and surgical intensive care, internal medicine, and medical intensive care) to train along side his medical colleagues.  As part of his residency training and chief year, Dr. Jo rotated through Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the nation's busiest Level I trauma centers. He gained tremendous experience in managing complex facial injuries, including repairing facial fractures and lacerations resulting from assaults, motor-vehicle accidents, and gunshot wounds. Dr. Jo utilized 3-D CT technology to assist in the diagnosis and surgical reconstruction of facial fractures to minimize traumatic deformities and optimize esthetic results. He finds it very rewarding to help patients who have suffered devastating injuries to restore their facial appearance. Currently, Dr. Jo is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Emory University School of Medicine and trains residents at Grady Memorial Hospital with a special emphasis in facial trauma and reconstructive surgery. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have truly earned the reputation of "saving faces, changing lives."  Because Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have an extensive background in surgery of the facial skeleton and soft tissues (corrective, cosmetic, and trauma surgery) to create or restore a harmonious facial appearance, facial cosmetic surgery was a natural evolution for his specialty. During his fellowship in Facial Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Jo performed numerous facial cosmetic procedures, including facelift, mini-facelift, blepharoplasty (upper and lower eyelid surgery), endoscopic forehead and browlift, necklift and liposuction, rhinoplasty (nose job), otoplasty (correction of protruding ear), lip augmentation, BOTOX cosmetic, and facial resurfacing (chemical and laser peels). Dr. Jo combines his skills and experiences from all aspects of his training to provide the best surgical outcomes for his patients. But most importantly, Dr. Jo regards his compassion and attention to his patients' needs as his greatest asset for providing optimal care.  Dr. Jo keeps an interest in academics and remains involved with Emory
