Biography
Dr. Bruce Kerns graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois with Departmental Distinction from the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. In 1983, he earned a Master of Science degree in Veterinary Physiology from the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology at Texas A&M University. In 1987, he graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with Honors from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. In 1999, he became only the second veterinarian in the state of Connecticut to certify as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (specialist in Canine and Feline Practice). He serves as a member on the Leadership Council of the American Animal Hospital Association. In addition to establishing the Countryside Veterinary Hospital, LLC, he also founded and operates Mobile Veterinary Imaging, LLC, a diagnostic ultrasound practice consulting with veterinary hospitals in southwestern Connecticut. He and his wife, Holly, have been residents of Newtown since 1991 and are the proud parents of three children, Jessica, Aileen, and Peter. They enjoy the company of their dog, "Miss Sadie" and cat 'Maverick'. He is an usher at St. Stephen's Church in Trumbull where his wife, Holly, is a CCD teacher. His hobbies include skiing, sailing, boating, fishing, genealogy and photography, especially while traveling with his family.
