Biography

Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc. (MCAR) is a not-for-profit humane organization, contracted by the county to operate the animal shelter. We receive support from the county but could not exist without funds from grants, individual donations, and fundraising events. We rely heavily upon donations from people like you so we can properly care for the stray and unwanted pets in our care and prepare them for adoption into loving homes. We are a low-kill, open admission shelter. We do not euthanize for space, and only consider euthanasia an option with severe, untreatable medical problems or behavior/aggression that can not be resolved. Many no-kill shelters are selective about the animals they accept, guaranteeing adoption success. MCAR accepts all, provided they are from Mitchell County. All animals in our care are given the chance each deserves, regardless of breed, age, condition. We work closely with local vets and have created the Have Mercy Fund for shelter animals with special medical needs, as well as the Patricia Beam Spay/Neuter Fund to make surgery affordable for shelter and community pets in need. Mitchell County residents need to call to schedule in unwanted pets. All adopted pets are spayed or neutered before leaving for their new homes. We also offer low-cost spay/neuter for trap/neuter/release (TNR) or free roaming cats.
