Biography
Thomas Winkelmann, was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Berlin PLC effective from 1 February 2017. Thomas Winkelmann studied linguistics and ancient history at the Free University (Freie Universität) of Berlin and the University of Münster. As a postgraduate, he continued his studies in business administration. In 2004, he successfully completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in Boston. After various management positions in the US and Germany, Thomas Winkelmann launched his career at the Lufthansa Group in 1998, where he was initially responsible for South America and the Caribbean. From 2000 to 2006 he was Vice President responsible for North and South America. From September 2006 to October 2015, he was CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG's low-cost subsidiary, Germanwings. Following the announcement that Germanwings is to be integrated into Eurowings, Thomas Winkelmann was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Lufthansa Group's hub in Munich. Mr Winkelmann is married, has two children and lives in Berlin.
