Biography
Dr. Leon Hooftman, M.D., has been the Chief Medical Officer of Allecra Therapeutics GmbH since April 5, 2017. Dr. Hooftman served as the Chief Medical Officer of Polyphor Ltd. until March 2017. Before joining Polyphor, he served as the Chief Medical Officer at Synthon BV. He served as the Chief Medical Officer of Opsona Therapeutics Limited since May 2011 and was responsible for leading its clinical development initiatives. He is based at Opsona Therapeutics' headquarters in Dublin is a Member of its Executive Management Team. He has more than 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical drug development in the areas of immunology, haematology and oncology and has several New Drug Applications to his credit. He had a high-profile career in clinical development where he served as the Chief Medical Officer at Chroma Therapeutics Ltd (UK). He served as the Head of Clinical Development at Celltech (U.K.). He served as Director of Clinical Science for Oncology and Immunology and International Medical Manager in Immunology at Hoffmann La-Roche. He also served as the Senior Clinical Research Physician at Syntex, U.K. He serves as a Member of Supervisory Board at DCPrime B.V. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Oryzon Genomics S.A. He has completed more than 10 clinical Phase I/II trials involving drugs products targeting immunology, hematology and oncology research fields. He has participated as medical expert and advisor for several private companies and research committees. He is a registered Medical Practitioner in the UK and Holland. Dr. Hooftman obtained his B.Sc. in Medical Sciences and Medical Degree at University of Utrecht (Netherlands) in 1984 and Underwent Specialist Training in Transplantation Surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, U.K. He trained in surgery and transplantation medicine in Holland, the USA and UK.
