Biography
Dr. Strand is a consultant in clinical research and regulatory affairs for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. She has been a clinical rheumatologist for 35 years - in a subspecialty practice in San Francisco, as a clinical investigator and subsequently as Director of Clinical Research at three pharmaceutical and biotech companies, prior to establishing her consulting practice in 1991. She is a member of the clinical faculty at Stanford University, serving as Adjunct Clinical Professor, Division of Immunology and Rheumatology since September 2000; Clinical Associate Professor since March 1993 and previously at University of California San Francisco. Her professional interests include development and validation of outcome measures, and clinical development and regulatory strategies leading to approval of new agents for treatment of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, gout and osteoarthritis. She has authored over 300 original publications and reviews, 50 chapters, co-edited several books and multiple proceedings. She is a Master of the American College of Rheumatology (2015), Fellow of the American College of Physicians (1982), a founding member of the Executive Committee of the International Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) consensus effort (1992 – present), serves on the editorial board of multiple journals, and is a member of the Cosmos Club (1994).
