Biography
Dr. Dirk Backhaus is member of the Executive Committee of Crop Science and Head of Product Supply since January 1, 2014. Dirk Backhaus was born in Hamm, Germany, on February 4, 1967 and graduated from RWTH Aachen with a PhD in chemistry. He started his career after - a postdoc-stint at Ohio State University - in 1997 as Lab chemist & project leader in the Central Research of Bayer AG in Leverkusen. From 2001 to 2003 he was Plant Manager at the HB-plant of Bayer CropScience in Dormagen. He worked then as Management Support for the BCS Board Member Industrial Operations in Monheim. In 2005 he became Head of Manufacturing Asia Pacific and Head of IOP China, based in Shanghai. From 2009 to 2013 Backhaus was Head of Supply Chain Management & Strategy. Dirk Backhaus is married and has two sons.
