Biography
Born in 1952, married, four adult children. Following his vocational training in banking at Deutsche Bank AG, Dr Matthias Metz studied business administration at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, graduating in 1979. He stayed on at the university as a research assistant in bank management, eventually earning a doctorate in economic and political sciences. In 1985 Dr Metz returned to Deutsche Bank AG in Frankfurt as the assistant to the board of directors. He joined Wüstenrot Bank AG in Ludwigsburg in 1988, serving first as a universal agent before becoming a deputy member, then full member of the board of directors. In 1993 Dr Metz took the helm of the Deutsche Bank AG subsidiary in Augsburg. Two years later, he joined B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. KGaA, a bank in Frankfurt, where he served as the director of controlling, finances and taxes for three years. In 1998 Dr Metz became a universal agent of the Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall AG bank, followed one year later by his appointment to the board of directors, where he was responsible for finance. He was made chairman of the board in 2006, a position he held until 1 June 2014.
