Biography
Professor Dr. Hans-Werner Mewes is one of the co-founders of Biomax and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors. As an active researcher and professor, Mewes has championed scientific leadership in the business development and strategy of Biomax since its inception. After studying chemistry at Philipps University in Marburg, Mewes has held appointments at the University of Heidelberg, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Biochemistry. In 1988, Dr. Mewes founded the Munich Information Center for Protein Sequences (MIPS) to collaborate with partners to build the international PIR Protein Sequence Database. He initiated the bioinformatics study program supported by the German Research Foundation in 1999.
