Biography
Over the last 10 years, I have worked with different aspects of the durability of infrastructures. This concerns particularly reinforced/pre-stressed concrete and corrosion of the embedded steel, but I am also interested in corrosion of other infrastructures such as soil buried pipelines. My overall mission is to promote safe operation and durability of infrastructures, thus achieving sustainability and cost benefit for the society. I am fascinated by the multidisciplinary nature of this field – covering aspects from materials science, chemistry, electrochemistry, corrosion science, and civil engineering – as well as by the enormous societal relevance of infrastructure corrosion and the many questions that are still open in this field.
