Biography
Alister Craig graduated in 1981 from the University of Edinburgh with a B.Sc. in Genetics. This was followed by Ph.D. studies at the University of Leicester, completed in 1984 with a thesis entitled “The Gene Family Encoding a Major Glycoprotein in the Murine Submaxillary Glandsâ€. Several post doctoral research fellowships followed at prestigious institutions abroad and at home in England. Alister Craig has been associated with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) since 1999, where he currently holds the position of Professor of Molecular Parasitology and is Dean of Biological Sciences. In his own words Alister Craig’s main interests in research 'are the mechanisms of cytoadherence in Plasmodium falciparum and its role in severe disease'. Alister Craig has authored and co-authored numerous articles published in top international scientific journals. Alister Craig’s areas of expertise can be summarised as follows: Malaria, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, disease mechanisms.
