Biography
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr. H.c. Randolf Menzel, born 1940 in Marienbad. Study of Biology in Frankfurt/ Main und Tübingen; PhD in Frankfurt, 1967; Teachers exam for High Schools (Biology, Chemistry, Pedagogy), 1968; Habilitation in Zoology, Technical University Darmstadt, 1971. Professor at the Zoology Institute TU Darmstadt, 1972; Professor Zoology Freie Universität Berlin and Head of the Institute of Neurobiology, 1976; Dean of School of Biology at FU Berlin, 1978-1980. International Collaborations: Department for Neurobiology, Australian National University Canberra (1972-1973); Lecturer at the summer school Neual Systems and Behavior in Woods Hole, USA, 1979 – 1987; Further international activities in Brasil, USA, Australia, Israel. Member of Academia Europaea, Akademie der Wissenschaften BBAW Berlin, Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina, Akademie der Wissenschaften und Kunst Mainz, Norwegian Academy. Awards: Hörlein-Award of the VDBiol (1961), Leibniz-Award of the German Research Council (1991), Körber-Award of European Science (2000), Karl Ritter von Frisch Award (2004). Dr. h.c. (University Sabatier Toulouse (2007).
