Biography
Colin Michael Hall was appointed Professor of Marketing at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch (New Zealand) in 2006. Previously, he was a professor of tourism at the University of Otago and was honored with an honorary professor at the Institute of Marketing at Stirling University in Scotland. In addition, Hall holds professorships at Linnaeus University (Sweden), Sheffield Hallam University (UK), Southern Cross University (Australia) and also lecturer at the Institute of Geography, University of Oulu (Finland). He has earned a master's degree in Geography and Resource Management from the University of Waterloo (Canada) and completed his PhD at the University of Western Australia (1990). He was awarded the honorary doctorate for tourism geography at the University of Umeå (Sweden) in 2008. . Hall is the author and publisher of more than 60 books as well as more than 350 journal articles and book contributions. He is involved in numerous international research groups.
Research Interest
Hall has extensive research and teaching interests in the fields of tourism, regional development, sustainability as well as social and environmental issues. Special emphasis is placed on location marketing as well as the importance of tourism for economic development and the preservation of the cultural and scenic heritage
