Dr. Dietrich Borchardt
professor
Department of Aquatic Ecosystem Analysis
Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research
Germany
Biography
Dr. Dietrich Borchardt is a biologist and Head of the Thematic Area Water Resources and Environment as well as of the Department of Aquatic Ecosystem Analysis at the UFZ in Magdeburg. He holds the chair in the same subject at Dresden University of Technology and is spokesperson for the UFZ core subject area "Sustainable Management of Water Resources" in the Helmholtz "Terrestrial Environment" programme. His research focusses on ecological interdependencies in water, hydrological-ecological modelling of water bodies and integrated water resource management (IWRM). Since 2014, he has been Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board to UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme
Research Interest
Functional ecology of surface waters, Hydro-ecological and water-quality modelling, Ecological efficiency of rehabilitation measures, Integrated water resources management
