Biography
He is an environmental economist and, jointly with Prof. Dr. Bernd Hansjürgens, Head of the Department of Economics at the UFZ in Leipzig He holds the chair for Economics, with a focus on Institutional Environmental Economics, at the University of Leipzig, where he is also a director of the Institute for Infrastructure and Resources Management. He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (among others) and also a publicly appointed and sworn authority on municipal payments. As well as researching the economic aspects of energy, climate and water resources, he also investigates the economy of institutions, with a particular focus on the economy of politics and of the law. He has published numerous scientific papers and textbooks and writes regularly in the UFZ's science blog "Umweltforsch". He obtained the UFZ Knowledge Transfer Award in 2015.

Economic key issues of climate change / environmental impacts of energy transition Economics of biomass and bioenergy, Water resources management, especially water-related prices and charges.
