Dr. Karsten Rinke
professor
Department of Lake Research
Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research
Germany
Biography
Dr. Karsten Rinke is a biologist and Head of the Department of Lake Research at the UFZ in Magdeburg. The current focal points of his research team of biologists, chemists, physicists and engineers are modelling lake ecosystems, carbon turnover in water bodies and environmental monitoring of standing water bodies. With his team he is working on monitoring and modelling tools for water managers, new water pollutants, and on developing management strategies for multi-purpose dams and lakes
Research Interest
Ecosystem dynamics and nutrient cycling in Lakes and Reservoirs Coupled hydrodynamic-ecological simulation of lake ecosystems, water quality models Global change effects on aquatic ecosystems and water quality Spatial ecology of lakes Individual based models and structured population models
