Biography
Dr. Rolf Altenburger is a biologist and Head of the Thematic Area Chemicals in the Environment and of the Department of Bioanalytical Ecotoxicology at the UFZ in Leipzig. He is also a Professor at the Institute for Environmental Research at RWTH Aachen University. Professor Altenburger is spokesperson for the UFZ core subject area "Chemicals in the Environment" in the Helmholtz "Terrestrial Environment" programme. His research focusses on the analysis of the action of chemicals in the environment, the predictability and assessment of the effect of substance combinations and on establishing methods for measuring bioanalytical processes. He was appointed by Christian Schmidt, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, to serve on the Scientific Advisory Board "National Action Plan for the Sustainable Use of Pesticides" from 2015 to 2018.
