Biography
Jan Fleckenstein is a hydrologist and a hydrogeologist and Head of the Department of Hydrogeology at the UFZ in Leipzig and Professor of Hydrological Modeling at the University of Bayreuth. He is spokesperson for the Integrated Project "Water and Matter Flux Dynamics in Catchments" within the Helmholtz "Terrestrial Environment" programme. His current research areas are the interactions between ground and surface water and the associated matter and solute transformation processes, the dynamics of water and matter fluxes in catchments and new approaches to simulating and predicting the export of matter and solutes from the landscape. He is a member of the "Groundwater Technical Committee" of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and regularly co-organises seminars for the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (Deutschen Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall e.V.– DWA) on the subject of "Interactions between Ground and Surface Water".
Research Interest
Groundwater-surface water interactions, Simulation of coupled GW-SW systems Heat as a natural tracer, Water and solute dynamics in catchments, Interplay between hydrologic dynamics and biogeochemical processes.
