Biography
Cornelius Melief is Emeritus Professor at the Leiden University Medical Centre in The Netherlands. Trained as a M.D., he completed a Ph.D. on leukocyte antibodies and immune adherence with Prof J. J. van Loghem in 1967. His early research focused on T-cell recognition of transplantation antigens. In the past 20 years, he has focused mainly on the development of T-cell-based immunotherapy for cancer. He is also co-founder and CSO of the biopharmaceutical company ISA Pharmaceuticals. He has published more than 350 articles, among them several articles in “Cell” and “Nature”. He is the recipient of the Akzo Nobel Science Award and is also a member of a number of advisory councils.
