Biography
Albanis Triantafyllos is an Professor, Industrial Chemistry Environmental Protection and Environmental Engineering. Studies: 1974-1979: Chemical and Environmental Technology, Environmental Chemistry, Introduction to Agrochemistry Laboratory of Chemical Environmental Technology, Waste Management. 1983: Diploma of "Center International De Hautes Etudes Agronomiques Mediterraneenes", "Energy Utilization of Agricultural Waste", Zaragoza, Spain (Scholarship of the EEC Council). 1983-1987: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of Ioannina. 1989-1989: Post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Biochemistry, State University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, TX, USA (Prof. D. Hanahan). 1990-1990: Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Physical Sciences of the Texas State University in San Antonio, TX, USA (Prof. B. Thyagarajan). 1995: Postgraduate researcher at the University of Kuopio, Finland, "Course on Biomonitoring Methods", Scholarship: European Science Foundation (ESF), Research Fellowship in Toxicology (Prof. O. Hanninen).
Research Interest
Technology of Environmental Control and Protection. Development of analytical methodologies for the determination of organic compounds using gas and liquid chromatography in combination with mass spectroscopy. - Analysis of residues of organic micro-contaminants (pesticides, phenols, PCBs, etc.) in the environment (water, soil, plants and animals). - Physicochemical behavior of organic micro-contaminants in the environment. - Photolysis and photocatalytic cleavage of organic toxic compounds (pesticides and phenols) - Physical and chemical processes for cleaning and sanitizing sewage and water.
