Bernd Merkl

Biography

  Bernd has more than 15 years of professional experience in the biotechnology industry and a successful track record in the management of fast-growing businesses. Prior to joining Lophius he held a number of different positions at GeneArt AG and Life Technologies/Thermo Fisher Scientific. Bernd served as Member of the Management Board and Chief Business Officer at GeneArt and since 2012, after the acquisition of GeneArt by Life Technologies/Thermo Fisher Scientific, he managed as site leader the GeneArt Centre of Excellence for Synthetic Biology in Regensburg with more than 280 employees. In addition to his site leader role Bernd was responsible, as Product Management Director, for the worldwide synthetic gene, magnetic bead sample preparation and synthetic biology kit and service businesses. During his career he gained in-depth knowledge of strategic planning & controlling, launching and marketing of biotechnology services and products. Bernd started his career at Henkel KGaA and holds Master Degrees in biology/chemistry and business administration.
