Biography
Walter Galinat, born on January 31, 1956 in Erzhausen, Germany, has been a member of the Executive Board of Merck since April 2016. He has been responsible for the Darmstadt site, Procurement as well as Environment, Health, Safety, Security, Quality since September 2017. Prior to that, he served as CEO and President of the Performance Materials business sector since 2010. Walter Galinat has held various leadership positions within the company, which he joined as an apprentice in 1976. These include responsibility for the Liquid Crystals business since 2007, for the former Analytics & Reagents division since 2000, and for the former Laboratory Distribution business since 1996. From 1984 until 1994, Walter Galinat built up the Merck subsidiary in Taiwan. There he first worked for Merck as a delegate in a trading company, and from 1990 he was responsible as Managing Director for the subsidiary in Taiwan. Today, Merck is one of the largest companies in Taiwan with German roots. Walter Galinat is married.
